Description: 

Schrödinger, a technology leader specializing in software solutions for life science research and development, is searching for a Senior Applications Scientist to be based in Boston. Using Schrödinger's cutting-edge computational chemistry software platforms, Applications Scientists address challenging problems in drug discovery and guide customers in the best practice application of molecular modeling. Primary responsibilities include the following:

  • Supporting modeling service engagements
  • Providing pre- and post-sales software support, including demonstrating optimal use of Schrödinger’s life science software suites through demos and training, facilitating interactions between our customers and product development teams, and providing general scientific guidance
  • Engaging in research collaborations, both internal and external
  • Presenting at scientific conferences

A proven track record in applying molecular modeling principles to advance drug discovery programs, an outgoing personality, and a strong desire to engage with customers are required.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in computational chemistry, biophysics, or a related field
  • 3+ years industrial experience beyond a postdoc
  • A broad knowledge of computer-aided design, both theory and application. Specifically, solid experience and proven track record in the application of three or more of the following topics:

- Structure-based drug design for hit generation and lead optimization

- MD simulations / enhanced sampling / Free energy calculation methods

- Ligand-based drug design

- Chemoinformatics

- Quantum Mechanics

- Structural modeling

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel (20% of time)

Preferred:

  • Experience with application of free energy calculations in drug discovery programs
  • Experience using Schrödinger’s software suites
  • Python programming experience
  • Knowledge of medicinal chemistry
  • Project management experience
